Combining Great Tasting, Local Beer with an Exceptional Dining Experience
Great combinations are sometimes hard to come by, but we hope that we have found one with the marriage of DeNovo Beverage and the Patton Block Grill & Brewpub.
DeNovo Beverage of Monmouth, LLC began manufacturing craft beer in June of 2014. Co-owners Steve Murmann and Brad Sturgeon worked evenings and weekends running the business while maintaining their full-time jobs as a dentist and chemistry professor, respectively. Beer sales started with the labor-intensive bottling for Market Alley Wines (our first ever customer…THANKS!) and then moved on to include 1/6th barrels (sixtels) served at the Bijou, Danny’s, Petey’s, the annual BaconFest, and a few locations in Galesburg. DeNovo has brewed over 20 styles of beer while refining its brewing techniques.
In the Fall of 2019, Murmann and Sturgeon began a conversation with Chris and Lisa Gavin to establish a local restaurant that would include their craft brewery. The Gavin’s were interested in bringing a dining spot to downtown Monmouth as part of an overall revitalization effort and DeNovo was excited to join forces on the project. The first floor of the historic Patton Block Building, that had been recently acquired by Midwest Bank, was available for development. It seemed like the perfect fit. Kevin Cerar, formally associated with Cerar’s Barnstormer, Petey’s Bar & Grill, and The Packinghouse was hired as the manager. Kevin’s passion for quality food and exceptional service is unmatched.
Like any journey, there have been twists and turns along the way and challenges we couldn’t foresee. We greatly appreciate the many people that have helped us persevere and bring the Patton Block Grill & Brewpub to downtown Monmouth – contractors, family members and friends. Without them it would not have been possible. We hope you enjoy!
